ThatBox is a locally-sourced, Kitsap-themed, quarterly subscription box!

What the heck does that even mean?

It’s my unique solution to creating a financial lifeline for Maxwell Salon that also benefits other small businesses like mine. The pandemic closed our personal service business for 4 months and has continued to impact us harshly for nearly a year. Despite my best efforts, I was never able to find a way to offer ‘to-go” haircuts and constant technical challenges prevented me from having an avenue to offer our in-house retail offerings for online sale. Myself and other small business owners like me were left with no cash flow, bills stacking up, no-income and no sign of real help in sight. Though my employees were (thankfully) able to apply for and receive unemployment assistance, I was not; Nor was I able to get any kind of help or answers from that department due to the insanely high call volumes they were receiving at that time. I’m thrilled that after nearly a year of asking for help, filling out forms and trying for the SBA’s PPP program, we were finally able to be approved. I am so grateful for the local help I received in that process- more on that later. Anyways, the challenge of not really knowing how I would pay my rent/food/business operating costs (even a closed business still costs money to exist in the state of WA) and knowing that so many others in this community were living the same shitty reality as me led me to the brainchild that is ThatBox.

Here’s how it works: I hand procure each item from a local artisan, boutique, artist, service professional or Local Gem hotspot. Doing this allows me opportunities to connect and interact within the community. I get to know local people and their businesses/side hustles better, as I hunt for cool new things that local people are doing, creating and selling. This also creates a one of a kind surprise for you each quarter and helps put money into the bank account of a local person that we dig! The more boxes we sell, the bigger buying power I end up having for curating items and the bigger impact I can make in a small-business community that has been so heavily affected by the mass switch from in-person shopping to online sales.

Help me help-local and spread the word! It’s so much more than your basic subscription box, it’s local love.

You know you’re curious and we really want you to come find out about the rad stuff in ThatBox…
